OUTFIT MAKERS
If you’ve ever worked with me then you most likely have heard me use the term “outfit maker”. When a single piece of clothing or accessory has the power to create such an unexpected element, that the simple addition of it makes the outfit. These are the pieces you add to jeans and a white tee and BAM that’s the look. I find that the pieces I’m drawn to, and sometimes might even seem “unpractical”, often become my outfit makers. I think these are the things that make your style personal. Your “outfit maker” is what brings the party. It could be a red shoe, it could be a metallic bag, it could be funky socks, it could be a studded belt. It could even be something simple you wear all the time but because of what you paired it with, it becomes the outfit maker. The outfit maker is the X-Factor, the missing piece.

SUMMER ESSENTIALS
When it comes to summer style, I personally find I tend to lean on the same staples over and over and get a bit more experimental with accessories. (I’ll throw a wild card in here and there but I’ll get more to that later) Today, I’m focusing on the basics.
1) shorts, breezy pants, skirts.
I love an a-line denim short like these by citizens or a slightly longer pair like these that I’ve been wearing non-stop. I also love a chino with a slightly interesting shape like the doen paige short or these cute white cargos from Urban
Y’all know I’m loving the A&F linen skorts . Another seasonal main stay are longer pull-on skirts paired with tanks or even worn over a swimsuit, love this one from H&M.
I’ve also been into pairing airy or feminine pieces with a sporty or drawstring short like these linen ones from reformation or I like this cute bungee detail pair, and these Everlane ones, also love these from lululemon. And multifunctional!
Or flip the above equation and pair a feminine pair with a sporty tee or masculine vest, for example
Roomy, easy pants like these linen reformation ones or these green cargos are fun to style with a silky or femme top or worn simply with a tank etc. Though, if going this route I’d pair with a thought-provoking shoe choice or another contradictory element if some sort.

2) worn in tees, ribbed tanks, or breezy button-downs
My forever favorite white tee is this one from everlane, I also love the feminine pointelle detail on these from doen to add some softness.
Classic ribbed tanks like this one from COS or this $8 H&M one. Again, to add some subtle femininity or softness this doen one is great.
the Gap Big Shirt is the best. I like a linen or gauze one too.

3) bags made of earthy materials, layered necklaces and bracelets
Of course I need to start with my everyday go-to The Clare V fanny in Rattan the best bag I’ve ever owned. I also love the Pot de Miel for dinner, vacation it’s also great for everyday. This mango bag is affordable and super cute also.
Flora and Paulo beaded necklaces and stacked bracelets. Will dive more into accessories next.

4) cool sneakers, flats, and sandals of course
A fisherman love these from Freda also love the new canvas PLUS take 15% off any full prices items with code NatalieL15
I’ve also been loving my new woven JADA the square toe adds such a cool, sophisticated element i didn’t know I was missing.
My orange gazelles have also been a hero the past few months, unfortunately they’re out of stock everywhere but I really love these as an option

Tips to effortlessly transition to a night out:
1) swap tee for a cool blouse or top - think sheer, beaded, texture, unusual. BUT keep the bottoms low key
2) swap for an elevated pair of shorts/skirt - again think silky, textured, structured, colorful, beaded. BUT keep the top casual
3) keep everything casual but add an unexpected shoe or accessories. take jeans and a white tank for example, maybe you add a metallic sandal and a punchy bag or jewelry.
Doen Summer Chapter One
Doen’s first summer chapter embodies the season with effortless light and breezy 1940-50’s inspired pieces in silk, cotton, eyelet, and crochet. I am in love with this seersucker gingham dress I chose . It’s insanely flattering and versatile- I would wear this to a day time summer bbq or a night out in the city. I took a size small. Also in my cart: this mini dress, this white eyelet top, and this short and top set. Shop some more of my favorites below. xx
